Healthcare

Each alien and a stateless person have a right to protection of health in accordance with national legislation. Citizens of Georgia and persons having stateless status in Georgia have the right to benefit from the medical services established by the state health care programs.

In Georgia, the state universal healthcare program has been functioning since 28 February 2013. The purpose of the program is to enable the population who does not have health insurance to have financial access to medical services.

The beneficiaries of the state healthcare programs are persons holding documents proving their Georgian citizenship, neutral ID cards, neutral travel documents, persons having a status of a stateless person in Georgia, refugees, and humanitarian status holders.

Any medical establishment that meets the requirements established by the law for the respective services, expresses the will to participate in the program and in a written form will declare such will before the Agency of Social Services can participate in the program. The beneficiaries of the program have a right to choose a medical establishment around Georgia.

  • For the planned ambulatory services, a person can register in any service provider establishment by her/his choosing;
  • For the emergency ambulance and stationary services there is no restriction while choosing the medical establishment;
  • The planned surgical and oncological services are implemented on the bases of materialized medical voucher/letter of consent.
