Birth Registration

A civil acts registration authority carries out the registration of the birth of a child of a citizen of Georgia, as well as of a child of a stateless person having such status in Georgia and of a child born in Georgia or abroad.

 

With the request of birth registration an authorized person may apply to any branch of Public Service Hall; any territorial office of the Public Services Development Agency; Diplomatic Representation and Consular Missions of Georgia abroad.

 

The following persons may apply for birth registration:

  • One of the parents of a child;
  • An authorized person of a parent;
  • An authorized person of a guardianship and custodianship body;
  • An official from the medical facility where a child was born;
  • A trustee from an administration (City Hall) if a child was born outside of a medical facility without the assistance of a person authorized to issue a medical certificate;
  • If a child was born outside of a medical facility or in another state, the child’s parent can also apply to the body registering the birth of a child with a request for birth registration.

 

When applying for the birth registration of a child, a person must submit one of the following documents, taking into account the basis of registration:

  • Document regarding the birth of a child issued by a medical facility;
  • Decision on determining a legal fact of birth;
  • Related to parents:
  • Parents having a registered marriage should submit a marriage certificate and identification documents;
  • Parents who are not married should submit the identification documents of both parents.
  • A mother of a child, who is not married, shall submit the proof of identity document.

 

Birth registration is free of charge and is exercised at least on the next business day after the application of an authorized person.
