Registration of Marriage

Stateless person status holders in Georgia may marry and divorce citizens of Georgia and other individuals under the legislation of Georgia. In marital and family relations, stateless person status holders in Georgia shall enjoy similar rights and have similar obligations as citizens of Georgia.

For marriage registration, the marriage age and the consent of persons desiring to be married are required. In Georgia, marriage registration is permissible from 18 years of age.

 

Marriage might be registered in Marriage Palaces, in any territorial office of the Public Services Development Agency and any branch of Public Service Hall;

 

Persons who desire to apply for marriage registration should submit the following documents:

  • Joint written application of marriageable persons;
  • Proof of identity documents of marriageable persons;
  • Proof of service fee payment document (if marriage registration is made in ceremonial surroundings or outside the building);
  • Proof of identity documents of witnesses;
  • Proof of previous marriage termination document (if applicable)
  • Proof of identity document and authorization of authorized person if the application is presented by the representative of a marriageable person.

 

As for the divorce, it shall be registered by the civil acts registration authority. The mentioned authority shall register divorce if one of the spouses is a citizen of Georgia or holds a Georgian residence permit, or if the marriage is registered by an authorized body of Georgia.

 

The following persons are eligible to request divorce registration to the civil acts registration authority: (a) Spouses desiring to divorce based upon the joint application; (b) One of the spouses, if:

  • There is a court decision on divorce;
  • Non-applying spouse is recognized as a missing person;
  • Non-applying spouse has been sentenced to at least three years of imprisonment for committing a crime.
